I’m a swedish RPG enthusiast, who’s been playing more or less frequently for over 20 years. The main focus of this blog is on my latest passion; OSR gaming. I also run and thoroughly enjoy a game of Burning Wheel.
My gaming groups consist of everything from complete newcomers to the world of RPGs to friends who have been in the hobby for as long as I have; I find playing with a diverse crowd like this extremely rewarding, and it also keeps your skills as a Game Master up as you are pressed on all fronts – to challenge all players, keep the tempo up and make the game engaging and fair.
I currently use the Lamentations of the Flame Princess rules, but my style of gaming differs from the philosophy of that game in some ways and I generally run a more conventional game filled with standard Fantasy tropes and clichés – just the way I like it!
My basic philosophies regarding OSR gaming can be summarized as below, based upon the excellent categorization and beautiful icons found over at Strange Magic.
My games use a pre-made Map and pre-scripted content
I roll Dice in the open and don’t fudge the results in my games
Players characters Death is a likely event in my games
I play By-The-Book and “rule-zero” is not being used to alter existing rules
There are other things I would love to incorporate into my gaming style, and I am still struggling with a few of the points above, but these four points are my ambition as an OSR GM.
